The Ignatian Heritage Society

The cornerstone of your legacy to your family and to the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) is your estate plan. The Ignatian Heritage Society is a program that recognizes and honors special friends and benefactors of the USA Central and Southern Province who have chosen to leave a legacy of hope and promise through planned gifts.

We would be honored to welcome you into the Ignatian Heritage Society. By joining with us in the work of the province by a planned gift, you help ensure a secure future for young Jesuits in training and a dignified retirement for our senior or infirm priests and brothers. You also help further the ministry of our missionaries around the globe.

A planned gift is one that is fulfilled at a later date. Options for planned gifts include bequests, charitable trusts, gift annuities, retirement plans and insurance policies. In addition to making a meaningful contribution to the work of the Jesuits, there are distinct tax advantages available to the donor.

Bequests . A bequest is one of the easiest and most flexible ways to make a planned gift. With the help of an attorney, you can simply include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to family, friends or the Jesuits USA Central and Southern Province.

Charitable Trusts . There are two basic types of U.S. charitable trusts. The first is a "lead" trust, wherein the charity is paid first, and the remainder, after trust termination, goes to other beneficiaries, such as heirs or back to the donor. The second is a "remainder" trust, wherein the charity is paid last after termination of the trust, after other beneficiaries have received payments.

Gift Annuities . These provide guaranteed fixed-income payments to you for life and a future legacy gift in your name to support the Jesuits. Payments can begin immediately, or you can defer them to a later date. This could be a sound choice for those reaching retirement age.

Insurance Policies . Life insurance has long been an essential component of many families' financial resources. In addition to ensuring long-term security for loved ones, it can offer a convenient, affordable way to fund meaningful charitable gifts. Your attorney can show you how you can name the Jesuits as a beneficiary of all or part of the proceeds of your insurance policy.

Retirement Plans . Your IRA or other retirement plan may be vulnerable to both income and estate taxes. You can avoid such double taxation of your estate gift by designating the Jesuits as a beneficiary of your IRA or other retirement plan.

Please consider joining the many others who have become members of the Ignatian Heritage Society. In planning ahead, you can make a very meaningful contribution to the our province's continuing success in spreading the Good News.
